Christians Make The Best Hypocrites
A recent poll points out a startling shift in public opinion, for some, but convinces me of what I already knew. Ten years ago a study done by PRRI (Robert Jones’ shop) asked whether people thought an elected official who committed an IMMORAL ACT could “still conduct themselves ethically and fulfill their duties in both public and professional life.” Ten years ago half of the Democrats said YES they could, but only 36% of Republicans said YES.
America was baptized in the public dismissal of obvious misleadings and untrue statements by one individual like we’ve never seen before. And the entire time we found ways to give it a pass. Grabbing women by their private parts…pass. Mocking persons with disabilities on a public stage….pass. Berating entire country’s of people who were of color as “A whole nations.” And yes once again a pass. What was worse that there were many who were proud to point to his Christianity. And so did he (all though most quotes were wrong and out of context) Never the less he was give a pass.
Today, after overdosing on Trumpism that number for Republicans stands at 71%. The report also pointed out that “White Evangelicals (so-called Christians) grew the most tolerant. I’m not so naive to think that some of this blind hypocrisy does not cross party lines. Let’s face it…we live in a time where you really don’t have to do anything you promise on the campaign trail. Just win and do what you feel. That is not going to work in the best interest of marginalized black and brown people. And if you want to call it identity politics. I’m perfectly cool with that, because I identify with the black folk in my own statement.
